Event narrative

The northwest portion of the zone started in Extreme(D3) drought with Severe(D2) drought in the southeast. By the end of the month, the entire zone was in Severe(D2) drought.

Wider weather episode

Heavy rain over the last few days of September helped to bring some improvement to drought conditions over Southwest New Mexico in October. No areas in Southwest New Mexico were in Extreme(D3) drought by mid October.
