The entire zone remained in Severe(D2) drought through the entire month. The Hillsboro Cooperative Observer reported 0.02 inches of precipitation which was 0.97 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Heavy rain over the last few days of September helped to bring some improvement to drought conditions over Southwest New Mexico in October. No areas in Southwest New Mexico were in Extreme(D3) drought by mid October.
