A strong negative-tilt shortwave progressed from the Mississippi Valley into the Great Lakes during the day, providing support aloft to help drive thunderstorms across parts of northern Michigan. A cluster of storms produced wind gusts in excess of 40 mph across parts of the area, including over the waters of Lake Michigan.
