An impressive longwave trough progressed across the region, providing favorable forcing aloft to support a cyclone that tracked to the north and east of the Great Lakes. West-northwest winds behind this system provided heavy lake effect snow to portions of Chippewa county where over 10 of snow fell in Eckerman, Kelden, and just west of Sault Ste. Marie.
