Eastside Fire & Rescue says two people died when a tree fell on their car in the 7700 block of Preston Fall City Rd SE. As wind blew and rain fell, a huge tree snapped, then plunged onto the roadway at about 3 p.m. on Preston-Fall City Road.Camille Martlin, 59, and her son Max Martlin, 22 were instantly killed when the tree hit their car.
Fresh pumpkins were in the trunk.
Wider weather episode
An active weather pattern set up in October, bringing multiple rounds of wind and precipitation to both the lowlands and mountains of western Washington. A particularly stronger system in late October was responsible for stronger winds, heavier precipitation, and high surf. A High Wind Warning was in effect for the Coast, Western Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the Northern Interior locations, with a Wind Advisory for much of the Puget Sound vicinity and Eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca.
