Event narrative
One to one and a half inches of snow accumulated on elevated surfaces.
Wider weather episode
Light snowfall occurred across portions of the area on the afternoon and evening of Sunday January 2nd. This event happened in the wake of a anomalously warm stretch of weather including the warmest December on record for much of the area. A strong cold front pushed through on the morning of the 2nd followed by a trailing potent upper low. This allowed for rain to change over to a brief period of snow with light accumulations recorded in northeast Mississippi.
