Event narrative

A cold front brought a line of showers that swept through the Lower Texas Coast. A peak gust of 36 knots was recorded at the Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at Rincon del San Jose (RSJT2) at 8:36PM CST. Several gusts at or above 34 knots were recorded between 8:06PM CST and 8:42PM CST.

Note: The measured wind gust of 36 knots is equivalent to 41 mph.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front plowed through the Lower Texas Coast the evening of January 9th. A line of showers and thunderstorms developed along the cold front as it marched south and brought several observations meeting Marine Thunderstorm Winds criteria of gale-force gusts to area waters.
