Event narrative
A cold front brought a line of showers that swept through the Lower Texas Coast. A peak gust of 43 knots was recorded at the Texas Coastal Ocean Observing Network (TCOON) site at SPI Brazos Santiago, TX (BZST2) at 10:42PM CST. Several gusts at or above 34 knots were recorded between 10:24PM CST and 11:18PM CST.
Note: The measured wind gust of 43 knots is equivalent to 49 mph.
Wider weather episode
A strong cold front plowed through the Lower Texas Coast the evening of January 9th. A line of showers and thunderstorms developed along the cold front as it marched south and brought several observations meeting Marine Thunderstorm Winds criteria of gale-force gusts to area waters.
