Event narrative

Winds generally were gusting up to 50 mph. At 1251 AM EST on Dec. 7th, the ASOS at the Fitchburg Airport (KFIT) recorded a gust to 49 mph. In Petersham at 916 PM EST on Dec. 6th, amateur radio operators reported a tree down on East Street. In Lancaster at 917 PM EST, police reported a large tree down on Route 110 at Houghton Street.

Wider weather episode

A sharp cold front moving into a relatively warm air mass produced a line of low-topped showers that moved through southern New England during the evening hours of December 6th. Strong and locally damaging westerly wind gusts occurred along and immediately behind the front, lasting until just after midnight on December 7th.
