Event narrative

Light snow began falling during the overnight hours, with periods of heaviest snow in the early morning of the 12th. A Cooperative Observer near Roosevelt reported 7.0 inches of snow by 7 am CST, with some additional light snow occurring after.

Wider weather episode

An early season Winter Storm moved into the Northern Plains on the evening of the 11th, producing widespread rain across portions of eastern ND and northwest through west-central MN, along with strong gusty winds, and areas of snow. Heavy snow occurred over portions of far northwest to northcentral MN during the overnight and early morning hours of the 12th, where temperatures had cooled below freezing allowing for significant accumulations.
