A warm front moved across western South Dakota during the early morning hours, accompanied by light precipitation, mostly in the form of freezing rain. Most of the precipitation fell across the northwestern into west central South Dakota plains, where freezing rain amounts of a hundredth to near a tenth of an inch occurred. This coating of ice resulted in very hazardous travel during the early morning hours, with numerous accidents and Interstate 90 being closed east of Rapid City for a few hours.
