Event narrative
Seacor Power lift boat capsized when the bow echo moved off the southeast Louisiana coast during the mid afternoon. 13 of 19 crew members onboard perished (7 of those are lost and presumed dead). Convective wind gusts to 75 mph were observed. Conditions from the wake low winds hampered recovery efforts to Seacor Power.
Wider weather episode
A wake low developed on the backside of a cluster of showers and thunderstorms racing south across southeast Louisiana. This drastically enhanced downdraft winds, producing long duration winds around tropical storm strength across the area with peak gusts as strong as a weak hurricane. 13 men perished when these winds capsized a power lift boat.
