Event narrative

A spotter in Hillsboro reported a large tree uprooted due to high winds. An 8 inch branch fell across the highway, blocking early morning traffic.

Wider weather episode

A strong upper trough was moving across the Rockies with a strong cold front crossing southern New Mexico. There was also an upper level jet of over 100 knots moving through the region. Wind gusts up to 72 mph were recorded as the trough passed overhead.
