Extreme(D3) drought remained in place across all areas of the zone except the far north where Severe(D2) drought continued. The Cooperative Observer at Hillsboro recorded 0.11 inches of precipitation which was 0.76 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

December had below normal precipitation again across southwestern New Mexico which kept the area in Severe(D2) to Extreme(D3) drought conditions.
