Winter Weather — Northern Nassau, New York
2022-02-13 · Northern Nassau, New York
Event narrative
Trained spotters, broadcast media, and the public reported snowfall amounts of 2.8 to 4.8 inches of snow. A trained spotter reported 4.8 inches in Syosset, which made sense since closer to the north shore amounts were slightly higher with surface temperatures being marginal for accumulation.
Wider weather episode
Weak low pressure developed along a frontal wave along the southeast coastline and moved northeast offshore as 700 mb frontogenesis contributed to sub advisory and advisory level snowfall across Southeastern New York. Impacts were minimal as the snow was wet in nature and had difficulty sticking on cement surfaces. Not all zones are entered as with a warm ground some zones had under 2.5 inches of accumulated snow.
