Event narrative

A long period of Pacific moisture streamed into the region with strong winds and heavy snow. Idaho highway 34 was closed from Soda Springs to the Wyoming border on the 26th and US Highway 26 was closed from Ririe to Swan Valley. At least 60 motorists were stranded in Swan Valley on the 26th due to the road closure. Swan Valley received 7 inches of snow.

Wider weather episode

An extended period of Pacific moisture influx brought large amounts of moisture into southeast Idaho with continuous periods of light to moderate snowfall occasional strong winds. The entire region was under advisories and warnings for the entire week overlapping the Christmas holiday. Several roads closed on the 26th with heavy snow amounts and strong winds.
