Lower Plaquemines storm history

Several inches of snow fell across the parish beginning in the early morning hours and tapering off mid afternoon.

A 40 year old man died due to heat stroke while fishing in Delacroix. Heat index values were near 110 degrees in the area at the time.

A 70 year old man drowned in the Mississippi River near Fort Jackson when he attempted to assist two boaters in distress. Unfortunately, elderly man's boat flipped over and he was thrown into the river and drowned. The initial two boaters were rescued.

A number of structures mainly located outside of the levee system experienced flooding.

Temperatures were below freezing for approximately 60 hours from the evening of January 20th through the afternoon of January 23rd. The coldest period was the morning of January 22nd when air temperatures and wind chills dropped into the 10 to 20 degree range across the parish.

Francine resulted in minor impacts across the parish. Tropical storm force winds caused isolated damage to trees and power lines, with 3 homes suffering damage.
