Ross storm history

Trego Creek was running high due to recent heavy rains. An 8 year old boy drowned after being swept away in the creek. M8IW.

An inmate in the yard at the Chillicothe Correctional Institute was struck and killed by lightning. Five others were injured by the lightning strike.

Strong winds of 40 to 50 miles per hour were sustained for several hours. A gust to 62 mph was recorded in Chillicothe. Widespread damage occurred across the region, from trees being blown down on powerlines, to significant crop losses and structural damage.

Heavy rainfall for most of the afternoon hours caused widespread flooding across the county. Thirty six roads were closed across the county. Several culverts were washed away across the county. Three people were rescued from high water on Buckskin Creek.

The observer south of Kingston measured 7 inches of snow, as did a report from the public located 6 miles south of Chillicothe. A spotter near North Fork Village measured 6.5 inches of snow, and a public report from Frankfort.

Observers 6 miles northwest and 7 miles northeast of Chillicothe both measured 4 inches of snow.

An inch of snow was measured 4 miles northwest of North Fork.

A large tree was downed on Blackwater Road.

Trees and power lines were downed at Crouse Chapel Road and State Route 159.

Little Creek Road between Frankfort and State Route 28 was closed due to rushing water over the roadway.

A culvert along McDonald Hill Road was washed out.

Homes along Little Creek Road were evacuated due to high water.

Thornton-Sprung Road at Walnut Creek Road was flooded.

Anderson Station Road near Maple Grove Road was washed out.

The bridge on Maple Grove Road was closed due to flood debris piling up under and along the bridge.

Crawford Road was closed due to high standing water.

Yoctangee Park was flooded with high standing water.

Maple Grove Prairie and Dog Park was flooded by high standing water.

U.S. Route 35 had standing water covering a portion of the roadway. Banks were full on both sides of the highway.

Several inches of water were flowing across Westfall and Bush Mill Roads near State Route 207.

Flash flooding was reported along Marietta and Thornton Roads.

Water was rushing over Walnut Creek Road.

Flowing water was approaching the lowest level of a home.

High water was reported on Dry Run Road south of Graves Road.

Water was flowing over Oak Lane.

About a half foot of standing water was reported on State Route 41 north of Lower Twin Road.

High water was reported over Spargursville Nipgen Road.

High water was reported over Rozelle Creek Road.

High water was reported over Old State Route 35 just south of Chillicothe.

Numerous trees were uprooted south of Chillicothe. A few homes also had shingle damage.

Several trees were downed.

Near Chillicothe, 2.4 inches of snow was measured.

The observer 4 miles south of Kingston measured 2 inches of snow, while a spotter 6 miles south of Chillicothe measured 1.8 inches of snow.

A spotter in Chillicothe measured 0.10 inches of ice accumulation from freezing rain and freezing drizzle.

The observer located 4 miles northwest of North Fork measured 2 inches of snow.

A foot of snow was reported in Bainbridge.

High water was reported in several low lying areas across Ross County.

Several inches of water were flowing across Minnehan Bend Road.

Sulpher Lick was out of its banks and caused 2 to 3 feet of water to flow across Alexander Holler Road.

Trees and power lines were blown down across the county. The Chillicothe RAWS station measured a gust to 56 mph.

Several trees were knocked down along Hough Road.

A few trees were downed along Blain Highway.
