Hartley storm history

Total snowfall amount of 6 inches at Dalhart. Local media reported 3 fatalities and 1 critical injury due to a weather related vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 54 northwest of Dumas.

One fatal wreck was reported east of Dalhart (Hartley County) involving a GMC pickup truck traveling westbound on FM 281. The pickup lost control on the slick roadway and rolled into a field. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a Hospital in Lubbock, but later succumbed …

A strong gust of wind lifted a pickup truck and travel trailer off of the highway and into the path of another vehicle. The fatal accident occurred five and a half miles southwest of Dalhart on U.S. Highway 54.

The first severe wind gust occurred at 2007CDT. The peak gust of 61mph occurred at 2012 CDT at the mesonet site located 12 miles southwest of Dalhart.

Severe wind gusts occurred at the Dalhart 12SW mesonet site from a likely anvil gust from a nearby thunderstorm. The mesonet site initially gusted to 61mph at 1949CDT, had its peak gust of 86mph at 1950CDT, and continued to gust to 79mph and 74mph through 1952CDT.

The peak downburst wind gust of 60 mph occurred at 1821CDT with 2 additional gusts of 58 mph shortly after.

Multiple severe wind gusts were measured at the mesonet site located 12 miles southwest of Dalhart. These gusts ranged from 59mph to 63mph starting around 1525 CDT and lasted through 1535 CDT.

Numerous wind gusts were measured exceeding 58 mph during this 4 hour period with the max wind gust topping out at 70 mph at the 12 SW Dalhart mesonet. In addition, the Dalhart Municipal Airport ASOS recorded a measured gust of 60mph at 1253 CST and another measured gust of 71mph…

The 12 SW Dalhart Mesonet measured a wind gust of 60mph at 1313 CST while the Dalhart ASOS measured a wind gust of 58mph at 1330 CST.

A 500 acre fire occurred in Hansford county overnight on the 19th. The fire was believed to be started by lightning.

The peak wind gust of 70 mph occurred at 1755CDT.

The observation site had high wind gusts from 58 mph to 74 mph, with the highest concentration between 1020CDT to 1420CDT.

Multiple ground stations measured high wind gusts, up to 73 mph, somewhat continuously for approximately 8 hours.

Around 1705CST, in Channing, TX, a pole barn lost part of its roof to the wind.

One ground station measured high wind gusts for approximately 2 hours. Wind gusts up to 69 mph were recorded.

Several rollover accidents to the northwest of Dalhart along US 87 and southwest of Dalhart along US 54. First accident was reported just after 0700CST and the last report was at 1130CST. There were injuries.

Most of Hartley County saw accumulations of 1 or less with the exception of the far southeastern corner near Channing seeing 2 to 4 of accumulations.

Light snow fell over the county with accumulations around 0.90 inches.

A severe wind gust occurred from a possible dry microburst. There was little evidence of a strong storm on radar but there was a cloud deck around 9,000 feet. No known damage occurred from this severe wind gust.

This wind gust was in association with the outflow boundary moving through the area.

Hail of tennis ball size broke the windows out of a work truck.

Hail up to golfball size fell near Hartley.

The ASOS located at the Dalhart airport measured multiple wind gusts exceeding 58 mph during this time with a peak gust of 68 mph.

A few far northeastern spots in Hartley County received three to four inches of snow, but the vast majority of the county observed two to three inches of snow.

US Highway 54 and 87/387 were closed by TxDOT during the early afternoon hours due to motorist getting stranded in low to zero visibility. The ASOS at the Dalhart Airport started reporting 1/4 mile visibility from 1045CST to 1735CST with blowing snow and winds greater than 35 mph…

Two to Five inches of snow fell across portions of Dallam and Hartley County around Dalhart and northwest to Texline.

The ASOS in Dalhart measured several wind gusts exceeding 58 mph with the peak gust of 66 mph being measured at 1219CST.

The ASOS in Dalhart measured sustained winds of 35 to 42 MPH for several hours during the afternoon of the 8th.

The Dalhart ASOS observed a peak wind gust of 61 mph at 4:35pm CST. Another 58mph wind gust occurred at 5:30pm CST. Some of these higher wind gusts were a result of stronger upper level winds being brought to the surface within a few weak showers in the area.

From 1535CDT through 1550CDT the ASOS located in Dalhart gusted between 58 and 64 mph with a line of thunderstorms moving through.
