Nelson County Sheriff confirmed one person died when thunderstorm winds downed a tree limb onto the vehicle they were sheltering in near Wingina.

The Rockfish near Greenfield river gauge reached minor flood stage with a peak crest of 12.95 feet. At 12 feet, water begins to cover a portion of Route 617 near the river. Nearby fields are also flooded.

As a strong cold front moved through, westerly wind gusts intensified across central Virginia. The mesonet observation just northwest of Wintergreen, Virginia recorded a 58 mile per hour wind gust in Nelson County, Virginia.
