Winds grew to be their strongest by the late afternoon of January 12th. This resulted in widespread tree and power line damage. A few trees fell onto parked cars and one tree fell onto the porch of a home along Violet Lane.

Trees and power lines were blown down all across southeast Raleigh County. One tree fell onto an occupied home near the town of Ghent, but no injuries were observed. Tens of thousands of homes were without power as a result of the downed power lines.

Downed trees and power lines in the county resulted in widespread power outages. Near the town of Bradley, a power line was blown down onto trees and caused a fire in the woods near Beechview Road. The Beckley airport measured a 49 mph wind gust that afternoon.
