Event narrative

The observer in Steuben measured 6.3 inches of lake effect snow in less than 24 hours. The snow combined with gusty northwest winds near 40 mph at times caused occasional whiteout conditions in blowing snow during the early morning hours of the 19th.

Wider weather episode

A strong winter storm brought moderate to heavy snow and considerable blowing snow to portions of west and north central Upper Michigan from the 18th into the 19th. The storm also packing northwest wind gusts over 60 mph brought blizzard conditions and power outages to Alger County during the morning of the 19th.
