Event narrative
A male of unknown age drowned in a rip current at Huguenot Park in Fort George Inlet. Lifeguards also rescued a child from rough surf at Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park who was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. High risk of rip currents was observed on this day.
Wider weather episode
Strong high pressure ridge wedged down the southeastern seaboard causing breezy easterly winds. Prolonged onshore flow and breakers of 3-5 feet at the northeast Florida beaches developed a high risk of deadly rip currents.
