On May 17th, the north half of the zone was placed in Severe(D2) drought while conditions remained the same to the southeast where it continued to be Abnormally Dry(D0).

Wider weather episode

Another month with no precipitation worsened drought conditions in southern New Mexico with parts of southwestern Otero and far southeastern Dona Ana placed into Severe(D2) drought.
