September started with Severe(D2) drought over the north and Moderate(D1) drought across the south. By the end of the month, the entire zone was in Moderate(D1) drought.

Wider weather episode

Even though the last month of the monsoon season brought slightly below normal rainfall, late August precipitation helped to improve drought conditions across southern New Mexico in September.
