Central Tularosa Basin storm history

The entire zone remained in Severe(D2) drought. The Cooperative Observer at White Sands National Park recorded 1,.47 inches of precipitation which was normal for the month.

The entire zone started the month in Moderate(D1) drought and was placed in Severe(D2) drought on August 22. The Cooperative Observer at the White Sands National Park reported 1.32 inches of precipitation which was 0.56 inches below normal.

The average temperature at the White Sands National Park Cooperative Observer station was 87.4 degrees which was 1.7 degrees warmer than the previous record set in 1951. The high temperature topped 100 degrees nearly every day during the month.

A peak gust of 96 mph was recorded on the White Sands Missile Range Salinas Peak site. Other gusts included 70 mph at the Pony site, 68 mph at the Delta Clipper site and 59 mph at Apache.

A peak gust of 58 mph was recorded at the Brillo West Mesonet site on the White Sands Missile Range.

Interstate 10 was closed in New Mexico west of Lordsburg due to dust, wind and a car accident around Mile Marker 10.

September started with Severe(D2) drought over the north and Moderate(D1) drought across the south. By the end of the month, the entire zone was in Moderate(D1) drought.

The month started with the entire zone in Severe(D2) drought with the southern half improving to Moderate(D1) drought by the end of July.

The entire zone started June in Extreme(D3) drought and improved to Severe(D2) drought by the end.

A peak gust of 64 mph was recorded at the Rad mesonet site on the White Sands Missile Range. Other wind gusts across the zone included 63 mph at the Brillo West and Delta Clipper sites also on the missile range.

A peak gust of 62 mph was recorded at the Brillo West mesonet site located on the White Sands Missile Range. The Pony and Delta Clipper sites, also on the range, recorded a peak gust of 60 mph.

The month started with the northern half of the zone in Severe(D2) drought with the south in Moderate(D1) drought. The entire zone was placed in Severe(D2) drought by the end of April.

Salinas Peak recorded a gust of 64 mph while the Delta Clipper Mesonet site recorded a gust of 62 mph and 58 mph at the White Sands Missile Range Pony site.

On March 8th, the zone went from being completely in Moderate(D1) drought to having Severe(D2) drought over the northern half of the zone.

A spotter reported 4 inches of snow 2 miles north-northeast of Boles Acres.

A peak wind gust of 63 mph was recorded at the Apache site on the White Sands Missile Range.

The Salinas Peak Mesonet site reported a peak gust of 64 mph. The Apache site on the White Sands Missile Range recorded a gust to 59 mph.

A Mesonet site 11 miles southwest of Northrup Strip recorded a peak gust of 65 mph. Another site 7 mile southwest of Northrup Strip recorded a gust of 63 mph.

The entire zone started out in Severe(D2) drought, but on August 24th, the entire zone was placed into Moderate(D1) drought conditions.

A maximum snowfall amount reported was 11.0 inches 2 miles southwest of Cloudcroft. Other reports included 10.4 inches in Sunspot and 7.3 inches in Cloudcroft.

An observer in Tularosa reported 4.5 inches of snow.

Extreme(D3) drought continued over the eastern half of the zone while the west remained in Severe(D2) drought.

A peak gust of 70 mph occurred at Condron Field or 5 miles east-southeast of White Sands. The White Sands Missile Range Main Post reported a peak gust of 59 mph.

Severe(D2) drought continued over the western half of the zone with Extreme(D3) drought over the east.

The eastern half of the zone remained in Extreme(D3) drought while the western half remained in Severe(D2) drought.

A peak gust of 67 mph was recorded on the White Sands Missile Range at the Brillo West site. The Pony site also recorded a gust of 63 mph.

The entire zone started the month in Severe(D2) drought, but by the end of the month Extreme(D3) drought moved into the eastern half of the zone.

Four to 4.5 inches of snow was reported at numerous sites around Alamogordo.

The month started out with Severe(D2) drought over the far east, but by the end of the month, Severe drought expanded to all areas.

A peak gust of 61 mph was recorded 18 miles northeast of the White Sands Missile Range main post. A gust of 60 mph was also recorded 3 miles north-northeast of Capitol Peak.

A peak gust of 69 mph was recorded 11 miles southwest of Northrup Strip. Other gusts across the zone included 68 mph at Northrup Strip, 61 mph 16 miles north-northwest of Northrup Strip and 60 mph 20 miles west-northwest of Tularosa.

A 61 mph peak gust was recorded 11 miles southwest of Northrup Strip and a 59 mph gust was recorded at Lookout Peak.

Wind gusts up to 71 mph were reported across the zone with the peak occurring 7 miles southwest of Northrup Strip. Other gusts included 69 mph at Northrup Strip, 63 mph at Holloman Air Force Base and 68 mph 3 miles north-northeast of Capitol Peak.

A mesonet site at Northrup Strip recorded a peak gust of 71 mph. Other sites in the zone with strong wind gusts included 70 mph 20 miles west-northwest of Tularosa, 69 mph three miles north-northeast of Capitol Peak and 58 mph nine miles west of Tularosa.

A peak gust of 64 mph was reported 16 miles north-northwest of Northrup Strip. Other gusts included 63 mph 22 miles northwest of Tularosa, 61 mph 11 miles southwest of Northrup Strip and 60 mph at Northrup Strip.

A peak gust of 60 mph was reported seven miles southwest of Northrup Strip.

The eastern half of the zone started the month in Severe(D2) drought and improved to Moderate(D1) drought on July 31. The White Sands National Monument Cooperative Observer reported 0.51 inches of precipitation which was 1.87 inches below normal.

Severe(D2) drought was across the entire zone to start the month and on June 26th, the western half was placed into Moderate(D1) drought. The White Sands National Monument reported 0.74 inches of precipitation which was 0.22 inches below normal.

The northern three-fourths of the zone started in Severe(D2) drought and the entire zone was placed into it on May 15. The White Sands Missile Range received no precipitation which was 0.46 inches below normal.
