Event narrative
A peak gust of 61 mph was recorded 18 miles northeast of the White Sands Missile Range main post. A gust of 60 mph was also recorded 3 miles north-northeast of Capitol Peak.
Wider weather episode
An upper trough was moving through the western United States with a 125-knot jet moving across the Borderland. A surface low deepened over northeastern New Mexico which aided in the strong winds across the region with a peak gust of 88 mph reported at San Augustin Pass.
