Event narrative
Wind gusts up to 71 mph were reported across the zone with the peak occurring 7 miles southwest of Northrup Strip. Other gusts included 69 mph at Northrup Strip, 63 mph at Holloman Air Force Base and 68 mph 3 miles north-northeast of Capitol Peak.
Wider weather episode
An upper low was moving across Colorado with an associated cold front extending south across the Borderland. A 150 knot upper level jet was also approaching southern New Mexico which aided in bringing down wind gusts over 100 mph.
