Event narrative

The Brillo West Mesonet site on the White Sands Missile Range reported a peak gust of 72 mph. Salinas Peak had a peak gust of 69 mph, Holloman Air Force Base reported a gust of 67 mph, the Apache site on the missile range recorded a gust of 66 mph and the Alamogordo AWOS had a gust of 59 mph. A report from the public said that a roof was blown off of a home 1 mile north of La Luz around 2 PM.

Wider weather episode

An upper low was moving out of the Las Vegas, NV region and into northern New Mexico. A 100+ knot jet was moving across southern New Mexico. Southwest winds ahead of this system and an associated cold front gusted up to 111 mph at San Augustin Pass.
