A peak wind gust of 63 mph was recorded at the Apache site on the White Sands Missile Range.
Wider weather episode
A strong upper trough was moving across the Rockies with a strong cold front crossing southern New Mexico. There was also an upper level jet of over 100 knots moving through the region. Wind gusts up to 72 mph were recorded as the trough passed overhead.
