Significant precipitation deficits continued into October with severe to extreme drought persisting through the month. Chariton County began October with just a small sliver across the western portions of the county in D2 drought, but would expand to cover almost all of the county by early to mid October.

Wider weather episode

Significant precipitation deficits from the summer/early fall months continued into October, with severe drought (D2) continuing and even expanding into extreme drought (D3) for much of the Interstate 70/Missouri River corridor in Missouri and Kansas per the UNL US Drought Monitor. These drought conditions yielded a fairly active fire weather season in October.
