Event narrative

The mesonet site at the White Sands Missile Range Museum recorded a peak gust of 76 mph. Other gusts included 75 mph at the White Sands Missile Range Building 1830 and 70 mph at the Main post, San Augustin Pass and Globe mesonet sites. Several car windows on the base also sustained broken windows due to the wind.

Wider weather episode

An upper level trough was moving through the Desert Southwest with a 150 knot jet on the back side. As the trough moved through Southern New Mexico, west to southwest winds gusted up to 76 mph on the White Sands Missile Range with numerous other reports of at least 70 mph.
