Wider weather episode
An upper disturbance moved across the southern Rockies, coupled with a stout upper level jet stream and a developing surface low pressure system, resulted in windy conditions across the region. Surface pressure gradients stayed tight through the night from the 27th into the 28th. Amarillo was the first area to gust 58 mph around 2 AM and other sites followed gradually through the day. Following a lull in the late morning, winds picked up again in the afternoon and several areas would gust over 60 mph. The highest wind gusts observed were mainly focused along the Canadian River Valley.
