Severe to extreme drought conditions persisted across Humboldt County during January despite above normal precipitation. With the ground frozen, there was little if any recharge of soils and ground water.

Wider weather episode

Severe to local extreme drought conditions persisted across Iowa in January. However, there was normal to above normal moisture during the month which helped to slightly improve conditions although this was limited by frozen ground conditions in many areas.
