Event narrative
The San Augustin Pass Mesonet site recorded a peak gust of 97 mph. Other gusts across the zone included 70 mph at the White Sands Main Post, Building 1830 Denver WIT and Pony all on the missile range. The mesonet site at the Orogrande Gate had a peak gust of 58 mph.
Wider weather episode
A deep, broad upper low was located over the northwestern United States with an upper level jet approaching 150 knots over southern New Mexico. Extremely strong southwest winds moved through the region with a peak gust of 111 mph confirmed on the White Sands Missile Range.
