Winter Weather — Northern Fairfield, Connecticut

2023-03-14 · Northern Fairfield, Connecticut

Event narrative

Reported snowfall varied greatly along the western edge of Northern Fairfield. Most of the zone received snowfall under 6 inches going east and south. The higher elevations reported over 6 inches of snow along the far western portions of the zone as temperatures were marginal and snow reports were strongly based on elevation. A trained spotter reported 7.5 inches at 4 WNW Fairfield. Broadcast media reported 7.0 inches at 3 NW Ridgefield at a higher elevation. The remaining reports all came in well below 6 inches. Cocorahs reports included 2.7 inches in Redding, 2.0 inches in Shelton, 1.9 inches in Bethel and 1.5 inches in New Canaan and Sandy Hook.

Wider weather episode

A Miller B type storm brought rain which changed over to wet snow across Interior Southern CT. The heaviest snow totals were mostly driven by elevation across far northwestern Fairfield as temperatures were right at freezing. Most places closer to the coast had considerably less snow, which was mainly on colder surfaces. Locations to the east across the interior had accumulating snow but amounts were below warning criteria.
