2023-02-11 to 2023-02-12 · Mitchell, North Carolina
Wider weather episode
Precipitation associated with an area of low pressure moving up the southeast coast overspread western North Carolina late on the 11th, and continued through a good portion of the 12th. Temperatures were borderline for wintry weather across much of the area. However, locations above 4000 feet or so near the Blue Ridge escarpment remained cold enough to support a wintry mix. Ice accretion from freezing rain of around a quarter of an inch was reported in areas farther south toward the I-40 corridor, while locations to the north reported 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet.
