Event narrative

High winds developed along the Bering Strait Coast as well as St. Lawrence Island on the evening of May 13th and continued into the early morning hours of May 14th. Teller reported wind gusts as high as 76 mph during this event. Wales reported gusts as high as 62 mph before the wind sensor failed during the middle of the event. Elsewhere, Tin City reported wind gusts as high as 60 mph, while Brevig Mission reported gusts as high as 59 mph and Gambell reported gusts as high as 52 mph.

On May 13, 2023, front associated with a 988 mb low in the Bering Sea brought high winds to the Bering Strait Coast, St. Lawrence Island, as well as the Yukon Delta.
