Excessive Heat in Southern Hancock County, Mississippi

Excessive Heat July 30, 2023 – July 31, 2023 · Southern Hancock County, Mississippi

What the National Weather Service wrote

Very hot and humid weather occurred over coastal Mississippi during the last 2 days of July. High temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s with heat indices were in the 113 to 116 degree range each afternoon.

The wider storm

An expansive and slow-moving ridge sat over the southern portion of the CONUS at the end of July. This ridge caused extreme record-breaking temperatures across much of the south, including southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. The record-breaking temperatures paired with high humidity values caused the heat to be excessive for multiple days at the end of July across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
