Event narrative

Caltrans District 2 reported a slide along State Route 70 just south of PG and E Rock Powerhouse due to rainfall over a 24 to 48 hour period. The slide was 3 feet in diameter. The road closure lasted approximately 2 hours and the road reopened at 0850 am on September 3, 2023.

Wider weather episode

The first few days of September were greeted with thunderstorms that brought period of heavy rain to portions of interior Northern California, as well as reports of rockslides, leading to a closure of Highway 70.
