Event narrative

Heavy snow fell in the higher elevations of the eastern Wind River Range. The highest amount of snow reported was 20 inches at the Hobbs Park SNOTEL site.

Wider weather episode

An area of low pressure brought deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico and brought heavy snow to the mountains East of the Continental Divide, mainly above 8000 feet. The heaviest snow fell on the eastern slopes of mountain ranges. Over 3 feet of snow fell in portions of the Absarokas and the eastern Bighorn Range. Amounts of 1 to 2 feet also fell in on Casper Mountain, the eastern Wind River Range, and the western Bighorn Range. Below 7500 feet, most precipitation fell as rain, with only light accumulations on non-paved surfaces.
