Wind River Mountains East storm history

A maximum wind gust of 93 mph occurred in Red Canyon along Highway 28.

A WYDOT sensor above Red Canyon near South Pass recorded a wind gust of 107 mph.

Heavy snow fell in portions of the Eastern Wind River Range, with a maximum amount of 16 inches at the Deer Park SNOTEL site.

Heavy snow fell in portions of the Wind River Mountains, with 17 inches at the Deer Park SNOTEL site. There were multiple reports of wind gusts past 60 mph.

A retired Weather Service meteorologist measured 26 inches of new snow at Bruce's Campground. Numerous SNOTEL sites reported 12 to 20 inches of snow. Highway 28 along South Pass was closed at the height of the storm.

At the Townsend Creek SNOTEL site, 15 inches of new snow fell. At retired NWS meteorologist measured 18 inches of new snow at Bruce's Campground.

Very strong wind occurred along South Pass near Red Canyon. Wind was sustained as high as 75 mph with numerous wind gusts past 100 mph. The maximum gust was 107 mph. As a result, the pass was closed to high profile vehicles for a time.

Heavy snow fell through much of the eastern Wind River Range, with a maximum amount of 16 inches at the Townsend Creek SNOTEL site.

Heavy snow fell in the eastern Wind River Range, with a maximum new snowfall of 24 inches at the Hobbs Park SNOTEL site. Very strong wind occurred with the snow, with a maximum wind gust of 104 mph along South Pass.

A maximum wind gust of 89 mph was reported at the Wyoming Department of Transportation weather sensor at Red Canyon. The nearby Wind River RAWS site had a maximum wind gust of 80 mph.

Heavy snow fell in portions of the Wind River Range, mainly above 8000 feet. The highest amount was at the Hobbs Park SNOTEL site where 24 inches of new snow fell. Measured amounts elsewhere were 14 inches or less.
