Event narrative
October began with D2 Severe Drought across most of the county with D3 Extreme Drought across the east-central part of the county. Rainfall for the month was near to slightly below normal, but rainfall through the month was enough to lead to the removal of D3 Extreme Drought with the update on the 31st. Minor improvements to D1 Moderate Drought were seen across the southwestern corner of the county with the update on the 3rd with further reduction of D2 Severe Drought seen with the update on the 31st, leaving D2 Severe Drought confined to far northern and the east-central portion of the county with D1 Moderate Drought and D0 Abnormally Dry across the remainder of the county.
Wider weather episode
Drought conditions persisted across northwest Wisconsin during the month of October, but significant improvement was seen. All areas of D3 Extreme Drought were removed by the end of the month with significant reductions in areas of D2 Severe Drought by the end of the month as well. Rainfall was near to slightly below normal for the month, but was enough along with lingering wet conditions from September to lead to the improvement in October.
