Price storm history

Snowfall was quite heavy at the start of the event with 8 inches falling in about 6 hours. Snowfall totals ended up in the 6 to 9 inch range with a high reports of 10 inches coming from the Phillips and Brantwood areas.

Snowfall totals across Price County were in the 5 to 8 inch range for the event. A high report of 10.6 inches was reported about 6 miles northwest of Butternut.

Lake effect snowfall affected mainly the northern part of the county with accumulations quickly dropping off moving south from the northern border. The heaviest snowfall was in the far northern part of the county where a high report of 7 inches was recorded near Butternut.

Several trees were down along Meier Road.

Several trees in a wind row were snapped, but not all the trees were healthy.

A messy spring storm brought freezing rain and snow to the county. Freezing rain led to a high ice accumulation of a quarter of an inch in the southeast corner of the county. This was followed by rain and a few inches of snow before the system departed.

Snowfall across Price County was generally under 6 inches, but with the very fluffy nature of the snow and some slight lake enhancement, the far northern part of the county received 6 to 6.5 inches of snow in a few spots near Butternut.

Most snowfall totals in the county were under 6 inches, but a few locations in the far southern part of the county reached 6 inches with a high report of 6 inches near Phillips.

Snow Squall. Visibilities quickly dropped to around 1/4 mile or less as the squall slowly passed through the northern and central parts of the county.

Wind chills as low as -45F were reported at the KPBH Phillips Price County airport.

Winds from the storms downed trees which were blocking County Highway W west of Phillips and Storms Road. A power transformer was on fire at the site of the downed trees on County Highway W.

Short-term street flooding was reported due to heavy rainfall and storm sewer backup. Flood waters led to damage inside an ambulance garage where water flowed under the bay doors.

The heavy rainfall led to washouts along Highway 111 north of the Needle Creek bridge to US Highway 8 leading to the road to be closed.

Trees and powerlines were reported down in the area.

Numerous trees were down on powerlines leading to several fires.

A total of 22 trees were snapped and uprooted. Red pines 15 to 20 inches in diameter and aspens 11 to 14 inches in diameter were included. One 26 inch diameter white pine was also snapped.

Large trees were uprooted and a business sign was snapped.

Snowfall began around midday on the 24th and continued through around daybreak on the 25th across Price County. Snowfall over the first 18 hours or so amounted to around 7 to 9 inches with snowfall totals of 8-10 inches. A high report of 10.7 inches was reported in Park Falls.
