Thunderstorms developed across northwestern Wisconsin during the afternoon hours of the 18th ahead of a cold front and an incoming upper level shortwave. Conditions were favorable for large hail and gusty winds in the region and a few of the storms were able to produce severe hail as they moved through. The largest hail reported was to the size of ping pong balls north of Mercer during the mid-afternoon.
