Event narrative

Wind gusts of up to 70 mph were observed at the Point Thompson (PAAD) AWOS. Visibility was reduced to 1/2 mile or less at times in blowing snow.

Wider weather episode

A powerful storm to hurricane force low moved into the Gulf of Alaska and then into the Western Interior, rapidly tightening the pressure gradient across the state. Strong winds developed ahead of the low and was accompanied by widespread accumulating snowfall and blowing snow.
