Barter Island experienced a short lived blizzard while heavy snow continued to fall. Winds gusted to around 40 mph for approximately 3 hours while the visibility dropped to 1/4 mile at Barter Island (PABA).

The Barter Island AWOS (PABR) reported near constant wind gusts of 45 mph to 50mph and visibilities fluctuating between 1/10th and 1/4th mild through the night as Blizzard conditions persisted. Heavy snow as also falling at the same time.

Blizzard conditions were observed at the Point Thompson AWOS (PAAD) with a sustained winds of 35 to 50 mph and a peak gust of 56 mph.

Blizzard conditions were observed at the Barter Island AWOS. Visibility was reduced to one quarter mile or less at times in snow and blowing snow. There was a peak wind gust of 44 kt (51 mph) at the Barter Island AWOS.

Low wind chills were observed at the Point Thomson AWOS with winds of 15 mph or greater and cold temperatures produced wind chills of 63 below or colder.

Winds over 15 mph combined with ambient temperatures in the -30's Fahrenheit resulted in wind chill readings from 60 to 70 below zero. The coldest official wind chill reading of -67F was observed at the Point Thompson Oil field airport.

Blizzard conditions with a visibility less than 1/4 of mile in blowing snow occurred at Pt. Thompson. A peak wind of 39 kt (45 mph) was reported at the Point Thompson AWOS during the event.

A rapidly moving front moving west to east across Barter Island resulted in westerly wind gusts to 67 mph.

Strong east winds gusting as high as 58 mph combined with falling snow resulted in blizzard conditions with visibility below 1/4 of a mile at times. The strongest winds and lowest visibility were reported at the Pt. Thompson (PAAD) oil field.
