Up to a tenth of an inch of ice led to at least one vehicle accident, in the Baywood area, due to icy roads. Key impacts: traffic delays and accidents.

Wider weather episode

An upper level storm system moved from the Central United States into the eastern United States through January 9. At the surface, a warm front with a trailing area of low pressure, lifted north through western North Carolina during the morning into the early afternoon hours. North of this front, precipitation initially fell as freezing rain and/or sleet resulting in light ice accumulations in some of the higher elevation areas in southwest Virginia.
