A total of 8.2 inches fell at Davis. Six inches was reported at Thomas.

Wider weather episode

While surface low pressure tracked from the southeast CONUS off of the Mid-Atlantic coast on January 15th and 16th, an upper-level shortwave trough dug from the Upper Midwest into the Upper Ohio Valley. While moisture overall was not excessive, snow accumulation was highly efficient thanks to sufficiently cold temperatures and upward motion in the dendritic growth layer. This led to an accumulation of several inches across the region, with eastern Tucker County getting warning-level totals.
