Event narrative

Blizzard conditions developed during the early morning hours on March 31st at Buckland (PABL). Wind gusts to 59 mph were reported, accompanied by falling snow. This resulted in blizzard conditions developing. Conditions improved during the evening hours of March 31st.

Wider weather episode

A strong low moved from the North Pacific to Bristol Bay to the Interior and the North Slope. This low tightened the pressure gradient across the Alaska Range resulting in high winds in the Eastern Alaska Range and blizzard conditions along the West Coast. Blizzard conditions at Kotzebue continued into the morning hours of April 1st.
